Residents take one-side parking initiative to decongest roads at R S Puram in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Traffic congestion is a major issue prevalent in almost all the cities in the country. Soon, some roads will also be made one-way to reduce traffic congestion," said traffic officials. That is exactly where residents of R S Puram in Coimbatore have acted differently.They have taken an initiative to decongest 15 roads in their area after discussions with the corporation and city traffic police officials.On Thursday, they launched the one-sided parking initiative in their area. Parking will be allowed only on one side of the road each month.City police commissioner A Amalraj said, "Residents of ward 23 of R S Puram have taken a very good initiative. "Residents, shop owners and commuters should park only on the side where the parking board is placed.

Parking will be allowed only on one side of the road each month.City police commissioner A Amalraj said, "Residents of ward 23 of R S Puram have taken a very good initiative. To reduce congestion, the members of various residential welfare associations have come together and it is appreciated."He said, "Others also need to follow this and support this initiative. While police will support them by imposing fines on the violators, the residents should ensure that they follow it."Ravi Sam, managing director of Adwaith Lakshmi Industries Limited, said this was just the first step towards creating a better space in the city."We plan to install CCTV cameras at all the junctions and also create many recreational places and green spaces in this area with the help of the Coimbatore Corporation ," he said.The major roads where this parking scheme will be implemented are - Cowli Brown Road, Badhyakarlu Road (east and west), Periyasamy Road (east and west), Venkatasamy Road (east and west) Ponnurangam Road (east and west), T V Samy Road (east and west), Lokmanya Road (east and west), Sambantham Road (east and west), Kannusamy Road (east), Sivasubramaniam Road (east), Megrikar Road, Sir Shanmugam Road and Venkataachalam Road."Residents, shop owners and commuters should park only on the side where the parking board is placed. This board will be alternated between the two sides of the road every month. Soon, some roads will also be made one-way to reduce traffic congestion," said traffic officials.
