After the first renal transplantation performed in January this year, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) has completed 10 successful procedures in nine months. Several kidney patients who claims to have donor are waiting for the approval of renal transplantation committee to undergo the procedure. With the procedure covered under Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), several patients suffering from acute kidney failure are approaching CMCH for the procedure. According to Dr. Prabhakaran, all the kidney recipient are in good health and were coming for follow-up treatment. It was on January 23, a 28-year-old man from Coonoor in the Nilgiris underwent the first renal transplantation performed at the hospital by a team of doctors headed by A. Prabhakaran, Head of the Department of Nephrology.
