Delhi-based designing firm to give city lakes a facelift

Coimbatore: The city municipal corporation on Thursday decided to give a facelift to the polluted lakes here. Coimbatore: The city municipal corporation on Thursday decided to give a facelift to the polluted lakes here. Work on 16 projects will soon be launched with the help of a New Delhi-based designing firm and tenders for the projects will be floated soon, commissioner of municipal administration G Prakash told TOI on Thursday.Prakash was in the city to attend a meeting with the officials of the Coimbatore corporation. New Delhi-based Oasis conducted a technical presentation to the officials of the municipal administration at the meeting."This company was behind the Sabarmati Riverfront project. Based on their work, we have asked them to take over the designing of the projects," Prakash said.The Smart City Project has plans for developing the city's lakes. "These projects will be implemented in a phased manner. We will start with Selva Chinthamani Lake, Ukkadam Big Tank and Valankulam," said Prakash. Promenades, cycle tracks, public spaces, bird watching towers, islands and flood management infrastructure will be set up near the lakes.Outline and concept for the projects are ready. "The tenders for some of these projects will be floated in the next 45-60days," Prakash said."Attractive structures will bring in tourists to the lakes. The civic body is also looking at preventing pollution of these lakes. We are planning to set up natural treatment process at their inlet points. The concepts of these are under discussion," said Prakash.Besides lakes, the corporation will also implement projects for developing 22 schools. "We have selected 22 schools in the areas for development. We will set up technological infrastructure at these schools," Prakash added.
