The Oriental dwarf kingfisher, commonly found in the broad-leaved canopy forest of the Western Ghats, has been spotted near a lake in Coimbatore. Vijay kumar Krishnamurthy had chanced upon the rare bird near the Krishnampathi lake. It is a forest bird. I tried confirming it with scientists, who wanted photographic evidence to identify it," he told TOI. "I was surprised to see the bird at wetlands inside the city.
