Man held for staging abduction drama

Sekar alias Rajasekar (30) from Ponneri who staged an abduction drama demanding ?50,000 as ransom was arrested by the city police late on Tuesday. Rajasekar was held at Athupalam on Tuesday after Bilal called him to a place near the toll gate in the pretext of giving the ransom. Rajasekar had demanded ? 50,000 as ransom from Bilal, a trader from Athupalam, claiming that the latter's son Jaffar Sadiq (19) was in his custody. On Wednesday morning, Valliyamal picked up a quarrel with Monika over this and attacked her with a sickle. After Sadiq went missing on August 1, Bilal had circulated notice in an attempt to trace him.

On arrest, the accused confessed to the police that he did not abduct Sadiq but staged the drama for money after seeing details of the missing youth in a notice. After Sadiq went missing on August 1, Bilal had circulated notice in an attempt to trace him. Attempt to murder charge The Karumathampatti police on Wednesday booked a woman on charges of attempt to murder her daughter-in law. Monika (25), wife of Suresh from Athupalayam near Somanur, was allegedly attacked by her mother-in-law Valliyamal (65) in the early hours of Wednesday. The police said that Valliyamal’s sister Kulanthaiammal had invited the former and her family members for the marriage of her daughter 10 days ago. Due to personal enmity, Valliyamal did not attend the function which was attended by Monika. On Wednesday morning, Valliyamal picked up a quarrel with Monika over this and attacked her with a sickle. Monika who sustained injuries in head and palms was admitted to a private hospital at Neelambur where her condition is said to be safe.
