Fire breaks out in garment shop in Cuttack

CUTTACK: Panic prevailed in Choudhary Bazaar locality on Monday after a fire broke out in a garment shop.In the noon hours, a fire spark was noticed in the ground floor of the two storey garment shop and in no time the first floor was filled with smoke. The customers and salesmen present in the shop immediately vacated the building. They also cleared the smoke by breaking one of the glass panes of the showroom.Fire officials suspect short circuit as the cause behind the fire mishap. A fire tender immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flames. “We intervened in time and doused the flames.

Not much damage has been caused neither anyone has been injured,” said a fire official.Though the fire at Choudhary Bazaar was not serious, but as the recent fire mishap that engulfed a three storey garment showroom and three shops in Palamandap locality on February 4 was still fresh in the minds of the citizens, there was chaos and panic in the entire locality.“As we saw smoke billowing out from the shop, we rushed out of the building. Fortunately, the fire was not serious,” said Arvind Agarwal , an eye-witness.Fire officials said the shop had few fire extinguishers but they will conduct a proper probe to find out what fire safety mechanisms were present at the shop to deal with such exigencies.“We will conduct a proper probe into the incident and on the basis of the report appropriate action will be taken in the matter,” said chief fire officer, Sukant Sethi.
