Barabati Nrutyotsaba to kick off from Feb 16

CUTTACK: Happy tidings for culture lovers as the most awaited Barabati Nrutyotsaba will kick off from February 16.The five day long classical dance and music festival will be held near the majestic Barabati fort gate . In the five day long exhibition, terracotta artisans from across the state will participate and showcase their talents. The festival organized near the Barabati fort attracts thousands of spectators every year and this year too we will receive overwhelming response,” said Das. Noted Odissi dancer Ileana Citaristi and dance groups from Kolkata, Jharkhand will perform on the open stage.

CUTTACK: Happy tidings for culture lovers as the most awaited Barabati Nrutyotsaba will kick off from February 16.The five day long classical dance and music festival will be held near the majestic Barabati fort gate . It is the 17th edition of the festival and people will get to see some scintillating performances by renowned artists.On the opening ceremony, artists of Odissi Nrutya Mandal will perform an Odissi dance ballet while artists from Bargarh will enthrall audience with their Sambalpuri folk dance moves. Noted Odissi dancer Ileana Citaristi and dance groups from Kolkata, Jharkhand will perform on the open stage. However, the highlight of the festival will be the jugalbandi of Sarod and Flute. Senior artists Sandip Rout and Jabahar Mishra will present the fusion programme at the dance festival.‘The Jugalbandi will provide a different experience to the culture lovers. The two musical instruments may seem totally mismatch but the performance will thoroughly mesmerize the audience,” said organiser of the event, Guru Ashis Das.Cuttack based Odissi Nrutya Mandal is organizing the festival continuously for the past 17 years in collaboration with the state tourism and culture department. The event is the brain child of Odissi guru Ashis Das and for last 17 years single-handedly he is organizing the festival.“The motive behind the event is to make our youngsters aware about our country’s rich cultural heritage. The festival organized near the Barabati fort attracts thousands of spectators every year and this year too we will receive overwhelming response,” said Das. The festival will conclude on February 20.The state level terracotta exhibition, organized by district administration, will also kick off from Friday. In the five day long exhibition, terracotta artisans from across the state will participate and showcase their talents. From terracotta decorative pieces to utensils, and from terracotta jeweler to wall hangings, an array of terracotta products will be sold in the exhibition, which will be held at the Baliyatra ground.
