CUTTACK: Panic prevailed at Gurudijhatia in Athagarh block in the district on Monday after a youth was chased and hacked with sharp edged weapons by some miscreants in broad day light.Police said the victim Shivram Rout(32), who works in a private company in Choudwar, left home at around 8 am for work. Suddenly, a group of miscreants intercepted his way outside the village and attacked him. To save his life, Rout ran in the open fields but miscreants chased him and hacked him with chopper.Locals gathered at the spot and rescued Rout. However, the miscreants absconded from the spot. Rout has sustained injuries on his hand and head and is undergoing treatment at Athagarh hospital , his condition is stable now.“We have started investigation of the case. Few persons have been detained also,” said inspector in charge of Gurudijhatia police station , Bijay Bisi.The incident triggered tension in the entire village. Looking at the situation, police personnel have been deployed in the village. Though Police is yet to ascertain the exact cause of the violence but it suspects that the attack was fallout of a previous enmity.“During the last panchayat elections, there was tension between the two groups in the village and it continues till now. Rout and the attackers belong to rival gangs. Political rivalry seems to be main reason behind the violence,” said a police officer.Some passerby recorded the visuals when the youth was chased and hacked by miscreants in the village and made it viral. Police said the visuals will help in identification of the miscreants.
