Jaundice spreads to new areas in Cuttack

CUTTACK: Jaundice has started spreading its tentacles to newer areas. “For decades, the drinking water supply pipelines in the area have neither been replaced nor repaired. Even water tankers were deployed in the area to provide alternative drinking water arrangement to the people. After Nuapada, jaundice cases have been reported in Press Colony and Labour colony localities.At least nine cases of jaundice were reported on Monday, taking the total number of affected persons to 19. Safe drinking water is being distributed in the area,” said chairman of CMC’s committee on health , Ranjan Biswal

CUTTACK: Jaundice has started spreading its tentacles to newer areas. After Nuapada, jaundice cases have been reported in Press Colony and Labour colony localities.At least nine cases of jaundice were reported on Monday, taking the total number of affected persons to 19. Looking at the situation, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation(CMC) on Monday set up a health camp in the locality to ensure proper medical treatment to patients.Blood samples of locals were collected at the health camp and they were provided free medicines also. Even water tankers were deployed in the area to provide alternative drinking water arrangement to the people. The CMC will also start door to door campaigning to create awareness among people about do’s and don’ts related to jaundice.Collector Sushant Mohapatra also conducted a meeting of all stakeholders and reviewed jaundice situation. The Collector has directed CMC to carry out necessary cleaning and sanitation work in the affected area while public health engineering organization has been asked to replace the rusted and damaged water supply pipelines.Locals have alleged that jaundice has spread in the area due to contaminated drinking water. “For decades, the drinking water supply pipelines in the area have neither been replaced nor repaired. Many pipelines pass over the drains and the drinking water gets contaminated with the drain water,” alleged Alekh Das, a resident of Nuapada.“We are taking every measure to contain jaundice in the locality. Safe drinking water is being distributed in the area,” said chairman of CMC’s committee on health , Ranjan Biswal
