Home guards may have uniforms soon

"We will also improve the quality of khaki clothes for home guards. BHUBANESWAR: The police would soon move the state government to formulate a ceremonial uniform rule for homeguards. "We will launch a course module for home guards to enhance their professional capability. After recruitment, they will undergo a basic course for 30 days where they will learn personal development and behavioural etiquette," Sharma said. While all police personnel wear the ceremonial uniform on special occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, home guards don only khaki clothes, the quality of which is not at par with the ones worn by policemen.The state has over 15,000 home guards, who are paid Rs 300 per day.

The purpose is to give them a smart look and treat them with dignity," director general of police (fire services and home guards) B K Sharma told TOI on the sidelines of a workshop on improvement of professional skills of home guards in the state.Ceremonial uniform features cross belt khaki uniform with neck scarf and turban. While all police personnel wear the ceremonial uniform on special occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, home guards don only khaki clothes, the quality of which is not at par with the ones worn by policemen.The state has over 15,000 home guards, who are paid Rs 300 per day.
