CUTTACK: A notorious criminal Ashok Behera suffered gunshot injuries in an encounter with police at Choudwar on Friday.DCP Akhileswar Singh said police had specific input about movement of Behera, against whom seven cases are pending in Choudwar and Markat Nagar police stations, in Choudwar locality. Acting on the information, a team of police headed by inspector in charge of Choudwar police station, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra immediately raided the spot and chased Behera.“On seeing our team, Behera opened fire at our police personnel from his pistol. In defence, Mohapatra also fired at the history sheeter and he sustained a bullet injury on his leg,” said Singh. Behera(29) has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment and his condition is stated stable by doctors. A pistol and two live bullets have been recovered from his possession.Notably, on Thursday night also police had conducted encounter in Chauliaganj locality and nabbed two criminals. The two history sheeters injured in police firing were identified as Alekh Routray and Kala Babu. Both of them worked for gangster Tito. Police said they had tip off about movement of the two criminals in an isolated place at Chauliaganj on Thursday night. A special team of police were chasing the criminals when they opened fire and hurled a live bomb at police personnel.
