"While Tito's wife Benazir lends her name to the gang's illegal businesses, Sayed is its second-in-command," said an officer of the STF. On Friday, the STF interrogated Benazir.Deputy inspector-general (STF) Himanshu Lal said the activities of Sayed and Babula would be investigated and they would be used to gather information on other members of the gang. "Their interrogation will lead us to the roots of the crime syndicate in Kendrapada," he said.Babula, also a trusted lieutenant of Tito, plays a role in the gang's strategic operations. "Babula would bring in members from other gangs such as that of Hyder, who has been in Jharpada jail for a decade now. While Hyder has got weaker due to his long stint in jail, Tito's empire has grown steadily," said a police officer. Babula has around 25 cases pending against him in Paradip , Kendrapada and Cuttack police stations.On Sunday, the STF sleuths summoned local labour union leader Rakesh Patnaik for his alleged links with Tito and his aides. A court in Kendrapada has asked the STF to file a case diary against Tito on Monday along with a list of properties seized.
