Supreme Court Collegium recommends new CJ for Orissa high court

CUTTACK: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri to be appointed as the new Chief Justice of Orissa high court The Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Madan B. Lokur has recommended Jhaveri’s name for the post to the Centre.Jhaveri’s appointment was necessitated after present Chief Justice of Orissa high court, Vineet Saran’s proposed elevation to the Supreme Court. “We are yet to get any official information regarding Justice Saran’s elevation to Supreme Court or about appointment of the new Chief Justice,” said a senior administrative officer or Orissa high court. Justice Jhaveri is currently serving at the Rajasthan high court While making the above recommendation the Collegium has taken into consideration the fact that Gujarat high court has remained unrepresented on the Bench of the Supreme Court and there has been no Chief Justice from Gujarat high court, for a long time.The collegium in its resolution has also mentioned that it finds Justice Jhaveri suitable in all respects for being appointed as the Chief Justice of Orissa high court.Born in 1958, Jhaveri enrolled at the Bar in 1983.
