CUTTACK: Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of Orissa high court . The Centre issued a notification regarding Jhaveri's appointment on Friday. Justice Jhaveri will succeed Justice Vineet Saran, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court.On July 19 the Supreme Court collegium had recommended Jhaveri's name for appointment as the Chief Justice of Orissa high court and the ministry of law and justice issued a notification in this regard."By Monday or Tuesday, we will get a clear picture as to when Jhaveri will take oath as the Chief Justice of Orissa high court," said a senior administrative official of the high court.Justice Jhaveri was elevated as a judge of the Gujarat high court in March 2004 and confirmed as a permanent judge in June 2005. He was then transferred to the Rajasthan high court in August 2016.Prior to this new appointment, Jhaveri served as the judge of the Rajasthan high court.The present Chief Justice of Orissa high court, Vineet Saran, has also been elevated to the Supreme Court. "The development has made the legal fraternity of the state happy. It is a matter of pride for us that Justice Saran has been elevated to the Supreme Court," said secretary of high court bar association Satyabrata Mohanty.Chief minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated both the newly appointed Chief Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri and the outgoing Chief Justice Vineet Saran through his twitter handle."Congratulate Chief Justice, Orissa High Court Vineet Saran for being elevated to Supreme Court & Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri on appointment as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court; welcome Justice Jhaveri to Odisha ," Patnaik tweeted.
