Dreaded gangster Sushant gets 5 years in jail in shooting case

"Sushant's advocate Souri Mohapatra said, "We have received the judgement and will appeal in the court of the sessions judge soon.

CUTTACK: The court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Cuttack , on Monday sentenced gangster Sushant Dhal Samanta to five years in jail for opening fire on a police officer in Bidanasi in 1999.The court awarded the five-year jail term to Sushant for violating Section 25 of the Arms Act by possessing fire arms. He also got three years of imprisonment under Section 27 of the Arms Act for illegal use of firearms. Moreover, a fine of Rs 25,000 has been imposed on him.Additional public prosecutor, Tapan Barik, said, "Sushant has been sentenced to five years for possessing arms and firing upon a police person. A fine of Rs 25,000 has been imposed on him. Justice has prevailed."Sushant's advocate Souri Mohapatra said, "We have received the judgement and will appeal in the court of the sessions judge soon."Sushant, along with his brother Sushil Dhal Samanta , was arrested in 2016 for alleged involvement in criminal activities. Sophisticated arms and ammunition and cash of more than Rs 1 crore had been found in their home in Cuttack.In October 2017, the Enforcement Directorate had attached properties worth Rs 8.82 crore of five close associates of the brothers.
