Day after SC rejects bail, Mahima Mishra surrenders in court

CUTTACK/KENDRAPADA: Noted industrialist and managing director of Odisha Stevedores Limited Mahimananda Mishra surrendered in the court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) in Jagatsinghpur on Wednesday, a day after the Supreme Court rejected the bail granted to him by the Orissa high court in May 2017 in connection with a murder. He might also intimidate the witnesses before or during trial.Two more cases of attempt to murder were lodged against Mishra at Cuttack and Paradip. Mishra was arrested from Bangkok in December 2016 for allegedly masterminding the murder. It stated that as Mishra is an influential person in terms of both money and muscle power, he might tamper with evidence and influence the investigation.

CUTTACK/KENDRAPADA: Noted industrialist and managing director of Odisha Stevedores Limited Mahimananda Mishra surrendered in the court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) in Jagatsinghpur on Wednesday, a day after the Supreme Court rejected the bail granted to him by the Orissa high court in May 2017 in connection with a murder. He was remanded in jail custody.Mishra was arrested for the murder of Mahendra Swain, the general manager of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Private Limited, who was allegedly gunned down by four assailants in Paradip on October 26, 2016. Mishra was arrested from Bangkok in December 2016 for allegedly masterminding the murder. He was granted bail, but the family of the deceased challenged the order in the Supreme Court.The Supreme Court observed that as investigation in the case is yet to get over, it would not be proper to grant the bail.
