CUTTACK: An 18-year-old girl, studying in Udaynath College of Science and Technology at Adaspur in Cuttack district , was stabbed by a youth in broad daylight, just few yards away from her college, on Tuesday.The victim sustained serious injuries on her waist, leg and hands and was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. According to doctors, the girl’s condition is critical.The victim is a resident of Firifira village, near Adaspur. The girl, as usual was returning to her home from college at around 12.30 pm when a youth identified as Rajesh Behera (21) stabbed the girl with a knife. The incident occurred just 200 metres away from the college and the accused fled from the spot after committing the crime.Locals rushed the girl to a nearby hospital, from where she was later shifted to the SCB as her condition deteriorated. “The girl was walking when suddenly a youth came, caught her hair and stabbed her waist. The girl fell on the ground and before people could do anything the accused fled from the spot,” said a police officer.The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. Police have started an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, residents of Firifira village staged protest demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
