KORAPUT: Koraput police have formed an anti-romeo squad to check eve-teasing in Jeypore town following complaints from girls. "The squad will also seize motorcycles with no number plates and for triple riding, rash driving and over-speeding," she said. "On a priority basis, we are moving in Jeypore as most of the complaints were from the town. The special squad has been formed to ensure safety of girls," said SP (Koraput) Kanwar Vishal Singh.The squad will have eight members and will be headed by additional superintendent of police (Koraput), Sagarika Nath. "In recent times, we have received several complaints that girl students are being harassed by eve-teasers.

The team will be deployed around schools and colleges from where complaints have been received."The squad will also seize motorcycles with no number plates and for triple riding, rash driving and over-speeding," she said. After confiscation of the motorcycles, parents of the offenders will be called to the police station where they will be told to rein in their children."While a first-time offender will be let off with a warning, legal action will be taken if he is caught the second time," Nath explained.Since Thursday, the squad has caught over 50 offenders from different locations of Jeypore town on charges of rash driving and eve-teasing."On a priority basis, we are moving in Jeypore as most of the complaints were from the town. We have intensified patrolling around all educational institutions, particularly when it is closing time," the ASP said.According to the officer, apart from the ARS, a PCR vehicle with women police personnel patrols the town 24X7. Girl students have welcomed the initiative of the police. "We now feel much safer while going to college as earlier we were always harassed by miscreants," said Barsha Patra, a student studying in a Jeypore college.
