ANGUL: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered on Sunday afternoon in a village under Angul police station.Quoting the complaint, police said the Class VII student was on her way from home to her father’s shop in the village, less than one km away, taking food for him. Police said prima facie it appeared to be a case of rape and murder.“Postmortem report will reveal whether it is a case of rape-cum-murder. Prima facie, it seems that the girl was killed after being rapes,” DIG Bhola added.“We are taking the help of a dog squad to trace the killers besides asking the forensic science laboratory to collect samples from the spot,” he maintained. She is suspected to have been kidnapped by the miscreants midway, raped and later stoned to death, police said.When the girl neither reached her father’s shop nor returned home for more than an hour, the family members started looking for her but she was found missing, police said. She had left her home around 1pm.At 5pm, the family members and some of the villagers traced her body near a bush, close to a nullah, lying naked with injury marks on her head and other parts of the body.DIG, north-central range, Narasingha Bhola, SP, Angul, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra and SDPO Harihar Panigrahi along with police officials reached the spot and began investigation into the incident.
