Gallery on Netaji opens in Cuttack

Netaji returned to Cuttack in August 1939 on the invitation of the All Utkal Youth Conference, the curator said. He was born on January 23, 1897, around 12.15 pm.“We started the gallery by displaying 15 photographs related to Netaji’s life in Cuttack ,” said museum curator J P Das. A sand art by Pramod Patnaik dedicated to Netaji was another attraction.Under the banner of Silver City Cuttack Public Charitable Trust, some locals took out a rally with a giant tricolour and demanded installation of a huge stone statue of Netaji. The Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi organised a painting camp on the museum premises .

According to the exhibits, Netaji was admitted to Stewart School (then a Protestant European School) on October 8, 1902, and received six years of elementary education there till he was promoted to Class VII.In 1913, Netaji completed his matriculation from Ravenshaw Collegiate School , where he was greatly influenced by two headmasters, Benimadhab Das and Narayan Prasad Mohanty, before leaving for Kolkata to pursue his higher studies at Presidency College in 1914.
