Orissa high court recommends compensation for rape victim

CUTTACK: The Orissa high court has recommended the name of a minor rape survivor for compensation under the Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme.The state home department had notified the scheme on March 31, 2017 "to regulate payment of compensation to the victims of crime or their family members".The girl was less than 12 years of age when she was raped on October 9, 2011 at a village under Khantapada police station limits of Balasore district Justice S K Sahoo, while issuing the direction, also dismissed the appeal of Bikrtan Mallik who was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment on September 26, 2012 for the crime.
