Bhubaneswar: Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”) today said that its network teams have worked on war footing to restore 90% of the affected network in areas in Odisha that were worst affected due to the impact of Cyclone Fani. With this citizens are experiencing near normal voice and data connectivity over the Airtel network across the worst affected areas in Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Cuttack. Both Airtel and nearly 6 lakh non-Airtel users (through ICR) are benefiting from these efforts. Mobile connectivity is a critical requirement in todays world. Keeping this in mind, Airtel undertook the innovative deployment of Cell ON Wheels (COW) to get the network up and running quickly. In Puri alone, Airtel is deploying a total of 13 COWs. The first COW was deployed at Bada Danda, near the Jagannath Temple on May 9. Commenting on the network restoration efforts Siddharth Motiwale, Chief Operating Officer – Odisha, Bharti Airtel Limited said, “As the largest operator in Orissa telecom circlefor the month ended January 31, 2019, in terms of number of mobile telecom subscribers, our priority has been to get the network back on its feet at the earliest, especially in the worst affected geographies. Our network teams and partners through the support of government have worked relentlessly to achieve quickly despite the massive damage to infrastructure on the ground. We would like to thank the government agencies for their support in making this massive exercise a success.” To further bolster the relief efforts Airtel has also offered free SMS facility in the affected areas and have set up camps in major locations where mobile users can charge their devices to get connected to the Airtel network.
