Cuttack Municipal Corporation attacked, 67 arrested: Odisha

Subsequently, 67 persons have been arrested. More persons are to be held soon, said sources.  

As many as 67 persons, including 15 women, have been arrested in connection with the attack on Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Police officials at Nuapada Balisahi under Madhupatna police limits Cuttack city.

Reportedly, tension erupted in the Nuapada Balisahi area of the city after temporary tents housing slum dwellers evicted from the Ranihat area for SCB road expansion work were blown away by the thunderstorm which battered the city on Tuesday afternoon.

Residents were outraged when several persons who were living in these tents were injured and were not provided with immediate assistance. Irate slum dwellers ransacked vehicles belonging to the police and CMC. They also pelted stones at CMC and police officials.

As a result, a CMC employee was seriously injured. Following it, two separate cases were registered by the CMC and Police in connection with the incident.
