Police starts probe into attack on BJD MP Baijayant Panda

"We have questioned few villagers of Jatiparilo, who were present at the time of the incident. To get a better picture of the incident we will examine many other persons. As many media persons were present at the spot, police are hopeful that they will get detail footage of the event which will help them to identify the culprits. CUTTACK: Almost a week after the attack on BJD MP Baijayant Panda with eggs and stones by his own party workers at Mahanga, the police have started investigation into the incident on Thursday.On the basis of a complaint filed by a social worker Subhendra Nayak , the police have registered a case and started its probe. Even few of them took out sticks to beat each other.

CUTTACK: Almost a week after the attack on BJD MP Baijayant Panda with eggs and stones by his own party workers at Mahanga, the police have started investigation into the incident on Thursday.On the basis of a complaint filed by a social worker Subhendra Nayak , the police have registered a case and started its probe. Nayak had lodged a complaint at Mahanga police station on Wednesday alleging that he had gone to Jatiparilo village on May 30 to attend the inauguration programme of the overhead water tank, constructed with the MPLAD fund. Nayak has alleged in his FIR that when he reached the spot he witnessed that two groups were involved in verbal duel and soon the tussle took an ugly turn as the rivals started attacking each other with stones and footwears. Even few of them took out sticks to beat each other. In the meanwhile, some miscreants hurled eggs at Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, who had visited the village to inaugurate the water tank.Though Nayak has not named anyone in the FIR but he has urged police to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and take action against persons responsible for creating violence and attacking Panda.Taking cognizance of the FIR, police have registered a case under section 147(rioting),148(armed with deadly weapons),294(obscene act),323(causing hurt),337,355(assaulting),506(criminal intimidation),149(unlawful assembly) of IPC and started investigation of the case."We have questioned few villagers of Jatiparilo, who were present at the time of the incident. To get a better picture of the incident we will examine many other persons. Besides, we are also trying to collect video footage of the event," said inspector in charge of Mahanga Police station, S S Parida "Along with the persons involved in rioting, we will also try to ascertain identity of the miscreants who had hurled eggs at the MP," said Parida. As many media persons were present at the spot, police are hopeful that they will get detail footage of the event which will help them to identify the culprits.
