PIL in Orissa HC seeking SIT probe into flyover collapse incident

The petitioner has made state government and officials of Panda construction company private limited as party in the case.In a related development, executive engineer(roads and building division, Bhubaneswar), Dukhbandhu Behera who has been placed under suspension after the incident, on Wednesday moved Orissa high court seeking anticipatory bail. Besides, he has also prayed that financial loss sustained due to the mishap should be recovered from the company and it should also pay appropriate compensation to the deceased and injured persons. CUTTACK: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in Orissa high court on Wednesday seeking probe into the Bhubaneswar flyover bridge collapse incident by a special investigation team A social campaigner, Surendra Panigrahi , has moved high court alleging that the September 10 flyover collapse incident, in which one person died and 10 were left injured, was result of sub-standard work and has demanded stringent action against erring officials.The petitioner has also alleged that the company hired for construction of the flyover, Panda Construction Company private limited, was blacklisted in 2011, still he was granted construction work of such an important flyover in Bhubaneswar by state government. The petitioner has alleged that low quality materials were used in construction of the flyover while the work was also not up to the mark.The petitioner has alleged that a SIT should be formed to probe the case thoroughly and book higher officials responsible for the mishap as he apprehends that commissionerate police cannot investigate the matter properly.Panigrahi has prayed court for cancellation of license of the said company.
