Five police personnel suspended after video of cops drinking at Doon police station goes viral

Dehradun: The senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti, suspended five police personnel on Sunday after a video of a group of officers allegedly consuming alcohol inside the city police station surfaced on social media. “He took another constable’s phone on the pretext of downloading songs and shot the video. If found guilty, we will initiate further action against the erring officers,” said Kukreti, SSP, Dehradun.According to sources, the video was allegedly shot on February 4 by constable Nitin Chaudhary who used the phone of another suspended constable to record the incident. In the over two-minute long clip recorded from the window of the room where the party was going on, the suspended officers can be seen enjoying liquor and snacks during duty hours.The suspended cops were identified as head constable Yogendra Kumar, constables Vivek Kumar, Deepak, Dharmendra Kumar and Nitin Chaudhary.“An internal enquiry has been ordered into the incident. He later forwarded the clip to his cellphone,” said a senior police officer, on anonymity.Chaudhary had allegedly sent it to his brother in Roorkee, also a policeman, and asked him to circulate on social media.SSP Kukreti also said they were trying to ascertain just why Chaudhary had shot the video and circulated it when he himself had partied inside a police station.
