Would like Saharanpur to be part of U’khand: CM

DEHRADUN: Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that he was in support of Saharanpur, a district of UP that adjoins Uttarakhand, being part of the hill state since Uttarakhand shares a deep social and commercial relationship with it.The CM’s statement has set off speculations as people from the district have often demanded inclusion in Uttarakhand in the past few years. Harak Singh had said that since these villages adjoined Pauri district and were dependent on Kotdwar for amenities like education, medicine and trade, they should be made part of the hill state.Speaking at a religious function in Behat Road in Saharanpur on Tuesday, the CM said that at the time of the formation of state, and even now, he was in favour of inclusion of Saharanpur in Uttarakhand.The CMO office when contacted said that no efforts were being made to merge any part of UP with Uttarakhand.
