To tackle snarls, Doon to get 40 new parking lots

The state traffic directorate and Dehradun traffic police have identified 40 vacant spaces that would be turned into parking lots. DEHRADUN: To get rid of cars parked on roads that often lead to traffic snarls, Dehradun will get 40 new parking spaces this month. “We are chalking out a detailed plan to decongest city roads by opening new parking lots and by enforcing traffic rules. The DIG (traffic) said, “Besides two major paid parking lots at Clock Tower and Tehsil Chowk, at present, we have 74 free parking spaces between Rajpur Road and Chakrata Road. People often park their vehicles at no-parking zones causing snarls.”Recently, two women-only parking lots were opened at Ballupur Chowk and Clock Tower by the traffic directorate.

DEHRADUN: To get rid of cars parked on roads that often lead to traffic snarls, Dehradun will get 40 new parking spaces this month. The state traffic directorate and Dehradun traffic police have identified 40 vacant spaces that would be turned into parking lots. The parking spaces will be able to accommodate up to 800 cars and up to 500 two-wheelers.Kewal Khurana, deputy inspector general of police (traffic), told TOI that the parking spaces were identified after a “feasibility” survey. “These spaces, which include vacant government land, have not been in use for many years,” he said.According to the plan, parking space for 200 cars each would be made available near Maukampur petrol pump and Celebration Garden on Haridwar Road, a parking lot to accommodate 20 cars and 20 two-wheelers would open at MKP PG College junction and another parking space would come up near CMI hospital to house up to 40 cars.Dehradun, which has over 8.5 lakh registered vehicles, has been grappling with lack of adequate parking spaces. People often park their vehicles at no-parking zones causing snarls.”Recently, two women-only parking lots were opened at Ballupur Chowk and Clock Tower by the traffic directorate. Another parking lot for women motorists is likely to be opened on EC Road.
