Month after Delhi tourist fell into ditch, husband arrested

Tamanna had married Hussain, who hails from Atta village near Greater Noida, in November 2017.Harish Chandra Sati, additional superintendent of police, said, “The husband has been arrested on the basis of evidence. As Tamanna was sitting on a parapet and vomiting, she spotted a snake and panicked which caused her to lose her balance and fall into the 200-feet deep ditch, according to her husband. He has been produced in court and sent to judicial custody.”The ASP said that Hussain was unable to provide satisfactory answers during questioning.

Nainital: Over a month after a 26-year-old from Delhi, who was on a trip to Nainital with her husband, died after falling into a ditch, police have arrested her husband on Friday, suspecting it to be a case of ‘dowry death’.Tamanna Khan and her husband Saddam Hussain, an Ayurvedic doctor at a private hospital in Noida, were on their way to Sattal on January 15 when the woman was nauseated and got down from a hired taxi on Nainital-Bhowali Road. As Tamanna was sitting on a parapet and vomiting, she spotted a snake and panicked which caused her to lose her balance and fall into the 200-feet deep ditch, according to her husband. Hussain had raised an alarm and with the help of local residents and taxi driver, Kishan Singh, was able to pull her out of the ditch. Tamanna was taken to B D Pandey Hospital where she died during treatment.The family members of the victim, who are residents of Mandoli village in Delhi, had registered a complaint in Tallital police station against the husband alleging that he had murdered her after harassing her for dowry for a long time. Tamanna had married Hussain, who hails from Atta village near Greater Noida, in November 2017.Harish Chandra Sati, additional superintendent of police, said, “The husband has been arrested on the basis of evidence. A case has been registered under sections 304B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been produced in court and sent to judicial custody.”The ASP said that Hussain was unable to provide satisfactory answers during questioning. “The man has not confessed yet but we are sure that more details will come out in the next few days,” the ASP said.Asif Khan, Tamanna’s brother, had earlier told police that his sister was unhappy with the marriage.
