ABVP burns effigy of IIT-R director over service termination

ROORKEE: Students associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) burnt the effigy of director of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R) on Thursday over the institute’s decision to terminate services of 35 people appointed on ‘compassionate ground’ after the death of their kin. These employees of entry-level posts are protesting outside the administrative block of the institute since April 9 and they have termed the institute’s order as ‘arbitrary and unfair.’ Meanwhile, the institute has beefed up its security to avoid untoward incidents.
