Dehradun: The ministry of environment and forests told the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday that the Uttarakhand government was responsible for management and protection of wildlife in the hill state, including the diseased blue sheep in Gangotri National Park.The submissions were made in response to a plea filed by advocate Gaurav Bansal who had said that Himalayan Blue Sheep were suffering from an infection which was turning them blind.In an affidavit submitted to the green panel, the Union ministry said that the subject of forests and wildlife is included in the Concurrent List of the Constitution and, therefore, the state governments are responsible for implementation of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and preservation of wildlife.The affidavit said that for effective management of national parks, financial and technical assistance is provided by the ministry to the states under the centrally sponsored scheme of Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats.“Under the scheme, Rs 19.2 crore have been released to Uttarakhand over the past five years.
