Kedarnath priests hold symbolic fast

A local priest, Rajkumar Tiwari, said, “Earlier, there were nine stairs, symbolic of the nine planets but now entry gate has been razed and the stairs have been widened. A select group of priests were on a fast today and we also abstained from offering pujas. DEHRADUN: Priests at Kedarnath held a symbolic protest on Monday against the ongoing renovation and restoration work that they claimed has altered the shrine’s vastu.Redevelopment work in Kedarnath is being monitored by the PMO on a daily basis but experts and priests have pointed out the lack of vastu experts in the planning panel of the temple committee. Now, the access of the shrine has more depth in the southern side which is inauspicious. We would continue our protest until the state government fulfills its promises of giving houses to priests and make the necessary correction in the entrance of the shrine.”However, state government spokesperson and urban development minister Madan Kaushik said that all the redevelopment works have been planned after consulting the stakeholders, including the locals and priest community.
