Brother of Bhim Army chief, 4 others booked for theft in Roorkee

Roorkee: City police on Thursday booked Bhagat Singh, brother of Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan, and four others for stealing mobile phones and other electronic devices from shops in Piran Kaliyar . Police said that Bhagat Singh was allegedly given 27 stolen cellphones by Kaka.“On information, we arrested Sonu and Sandip but Monu and Singh are still on the run,” said Pramod Kumar, SHO of Kaliyar police station. Kaka was arrested on Wednesday and on interrogation, he revealed the names of his accomplices.Police found that the accused, identified as Sonu Shiva, Monu Harijan, Bhagat Singh and Sandip Roshanlal, were all from different areas in Saharanpur district. While Azad’s brother is still at large, three others have been arrested.The accused have been booked under section 457 (trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code.While investigating some theft cases that took place in April, Kaliyar police found one Bhagat Singh involved in the crime. “On seeking further details, we found that he is the brother of Bhim Army chief Azad,” said Swapn Kishore Singh, circle officer of Roorkee police.The outfit has allegedly been named in many cases of violent clashes with people of upper castes in Saharanpur and other places in western Uttar Pradesh.Police said that in April, two cases of thefts were registered after 50 mobiles and other electronic goods such as inverters and batteries were stolen from shops in Piran Kaliyar.Police traced the stolen phones to Dadapatti village in Bhagwanpur near Roorkee and found one Amrish Kaka using it.
