DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand high court 's decision to quash and set aside the master plan for Doon has created uncertainty for residents who have built their homes in the city in the past decade after having their maps passed by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) under the master plan. Residents said that if the land use of their properties is changed, they will have to suffer for no fault of their own. "We have done nothing wrong or illegal . I bought a land with all my savings, got a map passed from MDDA and built a home. Now suddenly if my house is declared to be on educational land, it will ruin my life's saving," said Rakesh Kumar, a resident of race course.New housing societies at Dehradun Mussoorie Road, MDDA's building at Transport Nagar and Sahastradhara road etc may be declared illegal if the land usage for the area is changed. The decision has also not gone down well with the occupants of numerous flats and housing complexes that sprung up in the city in the past decade. Buyers have invested their entire savings into these flats, some have taken loans from banks and some from their relatives now they fear that these societies might also be declared illegal and they will lose their homes. "I bought a flat for more than Rs 30 lakh, now if the master plan is changed and if the land use of the area my building is located in is changed then I will lose my home," said Deep Bahl, a resident. The master plan for Dehradun and Mussoorie which was implemented through a government order in 2008 was quashed by the high court because the state government notified it and amended it in 2013 without consent from the ministry of environment and forest. Keeping in mind the eco-sensitivity of the Doon valley, the high court has now asked the government to get the approval from the ministry first. This has raised apprehension among the people that changes may be made into the master plan which will lead to land use change of many establishments, rendering them illegal.Officials at the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority say that the further course of action will be decide after consulting the government. "We are in consultation with government and a decision on the issue will soon be taken," said Ashish Kumar Srivastava, vice-president MDDA.
