Foreigners flock to land of yoga

Dehradun: People from over two dozen countries joined the International Yoga Day celebrations in Dehradun on Thursday to spread the message of well-being through yoga. “I learnt about yoga in Mexico city. We visited India to learn more about yoga and Indian culture. This is the power of yoga.” We never left,” she said.Joys from Latvia added, “It was a breathtaking experience.

Dehradun: People from over two dozen countries joined the International Yoga Day celebrations in Dehradun on Thursday to spread the message of well-being through yoga. While 38-year-old Leo Joys came all the way from Latvia with his family only to “experience yoga in the land of its origin”, Narayani from Ecuador was in Vrindavan when she heard about the event and couldn’t resist being a part of it.“I was in Vrindavan when I heard about International Yoga Day, I immediately booked my tickets for Dehradun.The experience was worth it,” said Narayani.She was accompanied by a family, natives of Mexico, who settled in Vrindavan several years ago. The couple has named their son Krishna after the Hindu deity. His parents said that their 13-year-old son was among the most enthusiastic participants.“I feel yoga is not about keeping your body fit but also keeping your conscience clean,” he said.Ras Keli, Krishna’s mother, said that it was yoga that first brought the family to India. “I learnt about yoga in Mexico city. We visited India to learn more about yoga and Indian culture. We never left,” she said.Joys from Latvia added, “It was a breathtaking experience. We felt connected with our fellow participants. This is the power of yoga.”
