Resolve issue with Haridwar saint in 12 hours, HC tells government

The court also said that the whereabouts of the saint, who was removed from the venue of his fast by police on Tuesday, should be disclosed to his followers. However, if the petitioner’s health has deteriorated, he shall be admitted in AIIMS, Rishikesh and his disciples/followers will be permitted to look after him,” said the HC in its order.Earlier, Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand, a saint of Matri Sadan, Haridwar, sat on protest last month demanding a legislation to protect the holy river.

The HC gave 12 hours to the state to resolve the issue with the saint.The division bench of Justices Rajiv Sharma and Lok Pal Singh, while observing that the act is an arbitrary exercise of police power, stated that every citizen has a right to protest subject to just restrictions imposed by the state government in larger public interest.
