Government hiring only diploma holders, complain pharmacy graduates

DEHRADUN: A group of young pharmacy graduates on Saturday accused the state government of giving preference to diploma holders over them. We have sent the amended proposal of hiring pharmacy graduates as well as diploma holders to the state government recently and are hopeful that it will get the required nod.” While the diploma course in pharmacy is for two years, the degree course is for four years. The state currently has 17 colleges recognized by Pharmacy Council of India and every year around 7,000 students pass out from these institutes. They are now planning to launch a state-wide agitation in support of their demand during the upcoming monsoon session of the state assembly.Meanwhile, DG, health, Dr TC Pant, said, “An amendment in the recruitment process is a lengthy task as it involves factors like making new service rules, setting protocols and including old and new rules to come up with best set of guidelines for the new employees to suit the needs of the state.

The pharmacy graduates alleged that none of them is given a job by the state health department “It is ironic that our government has not made any amendment in the recruitment policy for pharmacists and continues to work as per guidelines of Uttar Pradesh Allopathic Pharmacists service rules 1980, according to which only a D.Pharma holder is eligible for the post of pharmacist.“We fail to understand the reasons behind the delay in making the amendment,” said Sourabh Gosain, chairperson, Unemployed Graduate Pharmacy Association, Uttarakhand.The graduates claimed that they have been pursuing the matter with the government from the past three years but nothing has happened so far.
