After water scarcity autoclaves malfunction in Doon hospital

I was supposed to undergo operation on Monday but now due to lack of facilities, it has been postponed again. Hospital officials, however, said that they have got the water problem fixed and a few operations were conducted in the latter half of the day.Meanwhile, stalling of surgeries left many patients fuming. Last week there was no electricity and water and now the operation theatre has become dysfunctional. We have three autoclaves of which we got one operational by noon and operations in neuro unit were conducted. Hospital officials, however, said that they have got the water problem fixed and a few operations were conducted in the latter half of the day.Meanwhile, stalling of surgeries left many patients fuming. “I was supposed to undergo a surgery on Monday but it has been postponed as the operation theatres were not ready,” said Bharose Lal, 58, a resident Damdeol village of Pauri Garhwal who is admitted to the hospital for past one month.Echoing similar sentiments, Parmeshwar Nautiyal who was supposed to undergo piles operation on Monday said, “I am lying here for the past three months and the situation is unimaginable. Last week there was no electricity and water and now the operation theatre has become dysfunctional. I was supposed to undergo operation on Monday but now due to lack of facilities, it has been postponed again. I am continuously bleeding but there is no one to look after me or take up my case on priority.”However, the hospital staff said that emergency cases were being handled without any problem and the situation will improve form Tuesday. Doon medical college and hospital in-charge Dr NS Khatri said, “We have streamlined all the issues which are mostly linked to monsoon as we were facing electricity problem and then the water motor got burnt. We have three autoclaves of which we got one operational by noon and operations in neuro unit were conducted. The situation will get better from Tuesday.”Requesting anonymity, a staff member from the emergency unit of the hospital, said, “In the past four days, we have not taken up a single emergency case that needed major surgery as we are short of basic facilities. Fearing mishaps, doctors were not taking up any case and patients were being referred to private hospitals.”
