Heavy rainfall likely in state from July 21

Dehradun: Officials of the meteorological department have predicted another bout of heavy showers across the state from July 21, with isolated spots receiving very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall Talking to TOI, Bikram Singh, director of meteorological centre, said, “Rains will continue in the state and intensify around July 21. While Ukimath recorded 80mm rainfall, Karnaprayag received 60mm, Banbasa 50mm and Gairsain 40mm.Also, the met office has already issued a yellow coloured warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts on Thursday. Its intensity is likely to subside from July 24,” said Singh.On Wednesday, both Garhwal and Kumaon regions received light to moderate showers. There is also a possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy showers at isolated places.” He added that people should be cautious while travelling to the hills during this time.“The rains will reach its peak on July 22 when widespread heavy showers are expected to lash both plains and hills.
