Roorkee: A man was shot dead in a village near Roorkee after clashes between rival groups on Sunday night. Police have arrested the main accused who shot at the victim with his licensed firearm.Meanwhile, during the altercation between the two groups, an unidentified person recorded the entire incident on his cellphone and circulated the video on social media.Police said that Sukrampal, 36, owned two hardware shops and he started noticing that iron bars were going missing from the shop beside a roadside restaurant in Roorkee’s Libberheri village. When he took up the matter with the restaurant owner Nawab Ali, he abused Sukrampal. Later when Sukrampal and his brothers approached Ali again, he took out his revolver and fired at Sukrampal.Girish Chandra Sharma, in-charge of Manglaur police station, said, “Sukrampal succumbed to bullet injuries later in the night. A case has been registered under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code. Ali has been arrested and we have launched a hunt for his accomplices.”
