DA hiked by 2 for state govt employees

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand cabinet has raised the dearness allowance (DA) of state government employees from the existing 7% to 9%. Earlier in August this year, the Narendra Modi led government had increased the DA of central employees from 7% to 9%.For the Kharif season (2018-19), the state cabinet has decided to procure 7.5 lakh ton paddy. Out of which, 1.5 lakh ton would be procured through government agencies like cooperatives and the remaining six lakh through commission agents. In such cases, the committee would have the right to award work after looking into various aspects. The maximum serving age would be 65 years and the contract would be renewed each year.

Among other decisions by the cabinet on Monday evening were procurement of 7.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in Kharif season and reserving 100 vacant posts for retired doctors from across the country.Sources said that the increase in the DA would be effective from July 1, 2018 and cost an additional Rs 300 crore to the state government. Earlier in August this year, the Narendra Modi led government had increased the DA of central employees from 7% to 9%.For the Kharif season (2018-19), the state cabinet has decided to procure 7.5 lakh ton paddy. Out of which, 1.5 lakh ton would be procured through government agencies like cooperatives and the remaining six lakh through commission agents. The procurement process would start from October 1. The Minimum Support Price for paddy (common grade) is Rs 1,750 per quintal and Rs 1,770 for grade A variety.Additionally, keeping in mind the shortage of doctors in the Himalayan state, the cabinet has decided to reserve 100 vacant positions of doctors for experts from across the country. Retired expert doctors would be hired on an annual contract basis for a year. The maximum serving age would be 65 years and the contract would be renewed each year. Only specialists and experts from across the country can apply for these positions. A committee headed by director general (health) and comprising other members will finalise the names of doctors.Meanwhile, the cabinet was informed about changes recommended by the World Bank for the drinking water project funded by it. The World Bank is providing Rs 780 crore to Uttarakhand for a drinking water project.The cabinet decided to constitute a committee to look into projects where only a single person has made a tender bid. In such cases, the committee would have the right to award work after looking into various aspects.
