Dehradun: Nine people, including four minor boys, were arrested by police on Monday on charges of gangrape of a class X girl student of a boarding school at Sahaspur on the outskirts of the city. The minors were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board while the five others – who are officials of the boarding school and its staff members – were arrested on the charges of hushing up the crime by trying to conceal facts.Confirming the arrests, Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti told TOI, “As per the initial findings and the allegations made by the girl, we have arrested the people who have been involved in the crime in one way or the other. The medical examination of the girl would be done on Tuesday after which we will be in a condition to comment any further on the matter.”The girl was allegedly gangraped by four students who are said to be students of class XII of the same school. The matter came to light over the weekend, when the survivor confided about the incident to her sister who studies in the same school, and also told her that she was one-month pregnant. Following this revelation, the school management, it was alleged, tried to hush up the matter. On Sunday, a team of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (USCPCR) led by chairperson Usha Negi and members of the commission Sharda Tripathi and Seema Dora went to meet the girl, and after their intervention, an FIR was registered in the case at Sahaspur police station. After the girl informed the school administration about the incident, she was given various types of drinks for terminating the pregnancy. We have learnt that the medicated drinks were given to her by the administrator and his wife who instead of reporting the matter to the police were busy in trying to hush it up,” Negi said. She added that the “girl was also subsequently taken by the school offcicials to a nursing home for termination of pregnancy.”The commission members said that when they visited the school, they were shocked at the tardy facilities there. ‘Twenty-two girls were staying in the hostel without any female warden for the past one month. There was no CCTV in the premises where both boys and girls were staying,” Negi said.
