Mountaineer twins Tashi Nungshi to organise first lsquobasecamp festivalrsquo in Mussoorie

Dehradun: Twin sisters and renowned mountaineers, Tashi and Nungshi Malik, will organize ‘Base camp festival’, a first-of-its kind outdoor lifestyle fest, from October 25 to 28 this year.The four-day festival, aimed at encouraging ‘outdoor spirit’ among the youth, will be organised at Outdoor Leadership School (OLS), an experimental learning school based in Mussoorie foothills, which is the brainchild of the twin sisters and their father Colonel V S Malik (retired).“The aim of base camp festival is to promote outdoor lifestyle and culture in India. It will sow the seed of outdoor spirit among youth,” said the father of the twins.The festival will include 20-odd events like outdoor adventure films, talks by guest speakers, guided walks, park run, photography exhibits and special activities for children.“We envision India as an outdoor nation with equal and active participation of women where they all have the opportunity to set their sights high and reach their highest potential and OLS will be instrumental in helping achieve that,” the girls said.Both Tashi and Nungshi successfully scaled Mount Everest in 2013, becoming the first twin sisters in the world to do so and were later featured by Guinness World Records for their feat.
