In one such incident, a wheelchair-bound woman carrying an eight-month-old dead foetus had been waiting at the hospital for four days to get it removed.The woman, Shazia, 28, was visiting the hospital for a regular check-up when she was told that her baby had died in the womb 10 days ago.“We waited for past four days for a bed so the foetus can be removed,” said Shazia’s sister Aayesha. Shazia was finally taken for surgery on Friday evening.But there are many other women in the hospital, each with a tale of agonising pain and sorrow. Only eight doctors were available round-the-clock to treat patients.Meanwhile, a statement released by the state government after an inspection of the GDMCH by additional secretary (health) Yugal Kishore Pant on Friday said that the woman who died on Thursday in the hospital premises “was administered two units of blood and later she was found missing from her bed and was not allowing doctors to examine her. It added that the woman had given birth to a dead baby and that she was given CPR to save her life.Pant told TOI, “All critical cases will be treated here while normal delivery cases will be referred to Gandhi Shatabadi Hospital where we have recently opened a maternity wing.” Pant admitted that improvement in labour and operation theatres at GDMCH were required.
