The church is situated in Devpura area. The right-wing activists allegedly broke notice boards highlighting the prayer meeting and also pelted stones at the church, which is housed in a heritage building constructed in 1903 during the British Raj.Accusing the church of carrying out “mass conversions”, the protesters later filed a police complaint demanding action against the organizers. They also asked police to shift the church to another location.“A three-day prayer meeting was to be organized at Bhalla College ground from September 21 to 23 jointly by the churches of Haridwar. We got permission from the administration and local police. However, at the last moment, the permission was denied without any particular reason. Some people have been leveling false accusations of conversion at us. We have requested the administration to video record the event if they like. Now that the programme has been shifted to the church, we are seeing violent protests from certain quarters,” said Wilson Maseeh, the church’s priest.Meanwhile, police said that they were looking into the matter. Haridwar SP (city) Mamta Vora said, “We have provided security for the event. We have come to know about certain developments on Friday morning and will investigate the matter. Those guilty will not be spared.”
