Dehradun: Taking cognisance of the death of a woman and her newborn who were allegedly denied a bed at the Government Doon Medical College Hospital (GDMCH), the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Saturday directed the state health department to compensate the family of the deceased. The panel also said that the report of a three-member committee set up to investigate the incident should be submitted to it. While the scheme is being launched statewide from Pauri, it will also be launched at the local level in the state capital. The additional medical education secretary Yugal Kishore Pant, who had inspected GDMCH on Friday, also conducted an inspection of the Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital in the city. at the hospital.

The commission has also sought details of registration status of all government and private nursing homes in the state.Meanwhile, at GDMCH, members of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal led by Rameshwari Chauhan, barged into the office of the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the women’s wing, Dr Meenakashi Joshi, alleging inadequate facilities for pregnant women. at the hospital. Meanwhile, nurses at the hospital also stopped work for two hours alleging that some protesters and mediapersons had misbehaved with them and the hospital had not provided them adequate security.The nurses resumed work after assurance from hospital authorities that additional security would be provided and CCTVs would be set up. The additional medical education secretary Yugal Kishore Pant, who had inspected GDMCH on Friday, also conducted an inspection of the Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital in the city. Pant asked the hospital administration to add a few more beds and spruce up the facilities in the women’s wing.Chief medical officer of the hospital B C Ramola said, “At present, the hospital has just 30 beds in the women’s wing and the gynaecology wing only gives primary level services, tertiary facilities will be given in GDMCH for which an adequate plan will be prepared under the aegis of the chief medical officer of Dehradun. There is a plan to set up basic services like documentation and transporting the critical cases on priority basis from here to GDMCH.”Pant also checked the preparedness of the hospital for the launch of Ayushman Bharat project.
