Faulty planning and execution led to targets of piped water supply in villages not being achieved: CAG

“There was shortfall in achievement of targets of providing piped water supply and household connections by the year 2017. Five per cent rural schools and 31 per cent rural anganwadis were still without drinking water facilities and the state was far behind the goal of providing 55 lpcd to 50 per cent rural population by 2017,” the report said. Financial management was not efficient as there were instances of delay in release and distribution of funds among the components of the programme in violation of guidelines. The state was able to provide 55 litre per capita per day water to only 14.71 per cent habitation against the goal of 50 per cent,” the report said.The auditors pointed out that “piped water supply schemes suffered from poor rate of completion and there were delays ranging from 5 to 12 years in completion of 20 schemes costing the exchequer Rs 185.45 crore.”“NRDWP suffered from weaknesses in planning and deficiencies in institutional delivery mechanism.
