ULB polls: No sensitive or hyper sensitive polling centres in Doon, Haridwar

Dehradun: While the general belief is that the crime rate is higher in the plain areas of the Himalayan state, data compiled by the state election commission for the urban local bodies poll shows a different picture altogether.The two districts of Haridwar and Dehradun do not have a single polling booth or polling centre under the sensitive or hyper-sensitive category.Whereas, in a sharp contrast, 43 polling centres and 51 polling booth of Tehri district have been included under sensitive and 13 polling centres and 24 polling booths under hyper-sensitive category.As per the data provided by the state election commission, Almora has nine polling centres under sensitive and 14 under hyper-sensitive list, Bageshwar has 10 sensitive and eight hyper-sensitive polling centres, Chamoli has 30 sensitive and 17 hyper-sensitive polling centres, Champawat has 13 sensitive and four hyper-sensitive polling centes, Nanital has 54 sensitive and 66 hyper-sensitive polling centres, Pauri has 24 sensitive and 6 hyper-sensitive polling centres, Pithoragarh has 19 sensitive and 11 hyper-sensitive polling centres, Rudraprayag has 10 sensitive and 8 hyper-sensitive polling centre and Udham Singh Nagar district has 93 sensitive and 89 hyper-sensitive polling station.Apart from Dehradun and Haridwar, Uttarkashi is the only district that does not have a single sensitive or a hyper-sensitive polling centre.On being asked about the issue, state election commissioner Chandrashekhar Bhatt said, “This is not the final list. After confirmation of names of contestants and after going through their background, we will release a fresh list of sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling centres and booths.”Meanwhile, BJP state president Ajay Bhatt on Tuesday announced that in next two days the state unit of the party would announce names of all the candidates for different posts, including mayors in the urban local bodies and start a rigorous campaigning in all the districts.Speaking with TOI, Bhatt said, “Our election committee members would meet and finalise all the names after checking feedback of the internal surveys that have been carried out in each seat.”In the first round, the party is likely to announce the name of mayor candidate, followed by ward and city civic head-level seats.
