Haridwar: Most people even within BJP circles believe that the party’s mayoral candidate in Haridwar Annu Kakkad got the ticket owing to her proximity to city MLA and cabinet minister Madan Kaushik. Kakkad’s campaign thus becomes more difficult as she has to win over voters and fight two tags given to her — outsider and newcomer.She, however, claims that she is neither a newcomer nor an outsider. “I have been actively involved with the party for over two decades and have held several posts, including secretary and treasurer of the district BJP unit and general secretary of the party’s Mahila Morcha. I am also a member of BJP’s state working committee and can’t be tagged a newcomer,” she tells voters.She adds that she “shifted to Haridwar over a decade ago and knows the town extremely well.”During her campaigns, she talks of the development work that the BJP has done in Haridwar and is confident of winning the seat on its strength. “Voters attend my meetings in large numbers and my door-to-door campaigns also get good response. I am hopeful that the people will see the party’s good work and Haridwar will remain with the BJP,” she says.
