NH 74 scam HC grants bail to builder

Nainital: The Uttarakhand high court on Monday granted bail to builder Priya Sharma, one of the accused in the multi-crore NH-74 scam. The woman, however, would not be allowed to leave Nainital district without obtaining permission by the investigation officer of the case.Sharma had filed a bail application in the high court in June this year. On February 28 this year, the court had dismissed her petition seeking a stay on her arrest.Sharma along with builder Sudhir Chawla has been booked on charges of forging documents by the special investigation team (SIT) probing the Rs 300-crore land acquisition and compensation scam.According to a complaint lodged on January 27 by circle officer (CO) Rudrapur, Swatantra Kumar Singh, who is heading the SIT, both Sharma and her partner Chawla prepared forged documents to obtain a compensation of Rs 23 crore from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
